Salam semua,
Pos ini tiada berkaitan langsung dengan open source, tapi seperti tajuknya, makluman aktiviti sukan kelab 3boss. Feel free to skip :).

The scripts that I create for my everyday use are not as complex as the one previously posted by cperdana on automaticly changing desktop’s background. They are mostly straight forward; a sequence of commands and some variables, if there are any, and written by a shell programmer wannabe with a manual and some simple ideas.
As the theme of this post is Yomud’s crashing hard drive, I’ll just share the simple script I use to backup the important stuff in my laptop.
#!/bin/bash
HOMES="shakir svn"
MOUNT=/mnt/backup_temp
TARGET_DIR=/backup
sudo mkdir $MOUNT
# Mount my 200GB external harddisk
sudo mount -t reiserfs /dev/`cat /proc/partitions | grep 199141708 | awk ‘{ print $4 }’` $MOUNT
echo "### Backing up /etc"
cd /
sudo tar czf $MOUNT$TARGET_DIR/`date +%F`-etc.tar.gz etc
echo "### Backing up MySQL databases"
sudo /etc/init.d/mysql start
mysqldump -u root mysql > $MOUNT$TARGET_DIR/`date +%F`-sqldump.sql
sudo /etc/init.d/mysql stop
echo "### Backing up home directories"
cd /home
time sudo tar czf $MOUNT$TARGET_DIR/`date +%F`-home.tar.gz $HOMES
echo "### Backup completed at `date`"
sudo umount $MOUNT
sudo rmdir $MOUNT
It doesn’t have fancy features such as incremental backup whatsoever, but it gets the job done for me. The important thing is to have backups of our years of work’s worth since who knows for sure when will our hard drives fail?

Before you get excited with kvm in the latest linux kernel (2.6.20) , please check whether your processor is supported
Shakir had 2.6.20 compiled by the time I spoke to him about it. This time I used the built-in ipw2200 and ieee80211 drivers. The only patch needed was suspend2. Everything is working as expected alhamdulillah
Linux an-nahl 2.6.20 #1 Sun Feb 11 14:36:29 MYT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux
It’s also great to be home at last.

Assalammualaikum,
OLPC US$100 laptop or now known as XO laptop has a number of innovations built-in that easily beat Vista powered laptop. Just to mention a few that can raise eye-brows:
1) Dual-mode cheap low power LCD screen that rival Sony ereader (cost US$300) for ebook viewing
2) New security platform that beat Vista (cost US$300) security called Bitfrost
3) Innovative multi-hopping mesh network based on 802.11s standard (first commercially available in the world)
One word to describe these features and more available at a very low price, WOW! (the exclamation being used in Vista advert)
Much of them are discussed here and you can watch the related video.
There is a rumor saying that Microsoft is interested to try run Windows on the OLPC platform. Now this is interesting, first they laughed at you, then they join you, and finally you win.
IMHO, this Linux based laptop is more than educational laptop. It is a trojan horse to break Windows domination. I’ll try to write a separate article later on about this issue.
