Assalammualaikum,

OLPC US$100 laptop or now known as XO laptop has a number of innovations built-in that easily beat Vista powered laptop. Just to mention a few that can raise eye-brows:

1) Dual-mode cheap low power LCD screen that rival Sony ereader (cost US$300) for ebook viewing
2) New security platform that beat Vista (cost  US$300) security called Bitfrost
3) Innovative multi-hopping mesh network based on 802.11s standard (first commercially available in the world)

One word to describe these features and more available at a very low price, WOW! (the exclamation being used in Vista advert)

Much of them are discussed  here and you can watch the related video.

There is a rumor saying that Microsoft is interested to try run Windows on the OLPC platform.  Now this is interesting, first they laughed at you, then they join you, and finally you win.

IMHO, this Linux based laptop is more than educational laptop.  It is a trojan horse to break Windows domination.  I’ll try to write a separate article later on about this issue.

  1. When do you suppose OLPC will come to Malaysia? (will it ever?)
RM400 is quite cheap (cheaper than handphones lol)

  2. Malaysia have not commit to the OLPC unlike Libya, Brazil, etc. Since the OLPC will not be sold commercially (at double price) at the moment, may be it going to take a while.

  3. it will never ever been in malaysia.. WHY?, because bill gates being part of MSC in cyberjaya.. poor malaysia, full of mikosof n shit.

  5. Got something to share, OLPC already in Malaysia, but nobody knows. Check out http://olpcmalaysia.blogspot.com and see how they deploy OLPC in a school at Sarawak. Sekolah Kebangsaan Semop was the chosen one.
